A Rekindled Promise
Hey, guys! So, I wrote this the Prompt-A-Day challenge! Special thanks to Meg for letting us you it! I enjoyed writing this but It's not my best work. I found it kind of confusing and rushed when reading it over, but I'll post it anyway. You can be the judge of that. For all those Fluff lovers out there, you'll get tons in this story! :D
He shoved his frigid hands deeper into the pockets of his black denim jeans. Out of all the days he chose to give a embarrassing, genuine confession to someone he just had to choose one of the most coldest days of the year. He reached out and quickly rang the doorbell before retreating his hand back into his pockets to protect them from the cold. You couldn't help but smile as you heard the unusual tune echo around the porch. To Jerry it sounded like a marching band dying but it was a lot better than hearing Katie's bethoven when he went to her house.
Looking at her again, he couldn't help but feel like more of a idiot. Even in her work uniform covered in grease stains he could still say she was more beautiful than any girl he'd been with before. She was beautiful, but he knew by now that she probably didn't believe that he still thought that. "Mika, can we talk?"
He could see the annoyance sketched on her features, her lips were stretched into a straight line, and her eyes were narrowed with anger. "No." She thrust her arms out in a attempt to slam the door but he slipped his foot in just before it closed. It caused a shock of pain to travel throughout his foot but he stood his ground. "I need to talk to you Mika, and I'm not leaving until I do."
The wind decided to make fun at his misfortune and blew a strong gust towards him causing him to tighten his leather jacket around him. "Can you let me in?"
"No," she said with a impassive face. "If you're going to talk do it now. I'm babysitting Tootsie and I can't leave him alone for too long." He could see it in her eyes that she would like nothing more than to slam the door in his face and leave him there in his pathetic misery, but she resisted her urge and tolerated his presence. He had no right to be talking to her after what he did.
"Katie...she's popular, has a body of a model, she's amazingly nice, she's just..prefect." He saw her eyes narrow at the mention of her name but continued on. "You..you're a outcast, talk weird, act like a nut-case, you're nothing like her."
"Okay, I get it. I'm not Katie!" Mika exclaimed in anger with tears brimming in her eyes. Jerry shocked by her actions took a step back. "I'm not even close to her. I understood that when you left me. That doesn't mean that you have to come here and rub it in. I had to deal with this back home, I don't need to be reminded of it here-"
"You're my dream girl, Mika."
"So you can go...wait, what?"
Jerry removed his foot that was wedge in the door and gently opened the door wider to look at her. "I was going to say that you're my dream girl, Mika. I don't want someone who's perfect, I want someone who can make me laugh and prank me back better than I did to them. That's you, Mika. I want you back señorita."
Mika eyes widened but other than that, her face was still emotionless. Jerry stood there waiting for her to say something, a nod, smile, frown anything to indicate that what he said had at least touched her. "No...you're lying again. Stop it, Jerry. I'm tired of playing your silly game. For all I care you could go to the bottom of lake gashu in the pit of the dead and rot until-"
He couldn't help it. The way she rambled on about nonsense, her eyes burning with angry passion, he couldn't control himself. He probably should of had more self-control then that but at the moment he didn't care. He grabbed the back of her neck and pulled her forward, capturing her in a kiss. She stood frozen, her eyes wide, considering wether to push him off or accept it. Of course, like any other cliche, she chose the latter. She slowly kissed back and closed her eyes. Her hands found themselves on his arms pulling him closer.
It felt like they were together again, like Katie never existed, like it was just them, but she knew that it wasn't the case. As if struck by a bolt of lighting, Mika untangled herself from Jerry and jumped back. "Stop It!" Jerry stepped back and sighed rubbing the back of his neck. "Look. I'm sorry, Mika. I really am. I don't know what I have to do for you to believe me, and if you never do...then that's your choice and I'll respect that. Adiós, Señorita."
He turned around, stepped down from the patio, and began to walk back to the bus stop, or would've if he didn't feel a tender hand grasp his wrist. "Come to Falafel Phils tommorow at four. If we're going to do this, we have to do the traditions over as well." He twisted around and looked at her with disbelief. "Just..don't hurt me again, Jerry."
He stood frozen for a second processing everything she said, and just as he realized sh e wasn't praking him he turned completely around and flung his arms around her, capturing her in a hug. "I won't, Mika. I promise."
